This is a song about someone who is rebelling against the dog-eat-dog harsh world of office politics. He finds his escape by diving underwater and revelling in the freedom afforded in his underwater world.
Underwater
(Verse 1)
I bristle at the bustle
See the muscle of the hustle
The strong standing firmly on the weak,
They might as well stand in
Abattoir lines
While the feted carve their slices of the meek.
(Verse 2)
At work there?s some kerfuffle
Accusations and rebuttals
Not long until we see bared teeth,
No, I cannot stand in
Abattoir lines
Don?t want a forty year celebration wreath.
So I di di dive
(Chorus)
Underwater
Everything?s clearer
Even in the murk,
Underwater
Everything?s freer
No demons lurk
(Bridge)
When I'm underwater I pretend
That all the world is my friend
The jagged edges that I see
Can?t leave their mark on me
I glide and somersault
Free of judgement and of fault
In my perfect wonder-world beneath the sea
So I di di dive
(Chorus)
Underwater
Everything?s clearer
Even in the murk,
Underwater
Everything?s freer
No demons lurk
(Verse 3)
This life can be a tussle
Our heart a lonely muscle
Sometimes we get in it too deep,
No, I?ll never stand in
Abattoir lines
While ravenous wolves encircle all the sheep
So I di di dive
(Chorus)
Underwater
Everything?s clearer
Even in the murk,
Underwater
Everything?s freer
No demons lurk
