Artist's Notes

The lyric was inspired by a story originating from the Whiskey Rapids Trail in Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada. Back in the day, a group of loggers purchased a barrel of whiskey that had to be picked up by canoe. Two men paddled there, picked up the whiskey, and headed back to the camp. They thought they could run the Whiskey Rapids, but unfortunately had dipped into the whiskey barrel and weren't in the best state of mind to handle it. They capsized and despite looking hard they could not find the barrel, much to the dismay of their logging buddies.

Lyrics

WHISKEY RAPIDS

Lyrics by Alex O'Brien; All Rights Reserved

The log drive finally over

The boys fancied a drink

Let's chip in for a keg of whiskey

To work out the muscle kinks

Doogie and Don went paddlin'

To pick up the keg of hooch

They hit Canoe Lake in record time

Not a drop of mud on their boots

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Over the rocks we go

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Watching the river flow

Doogie and Don were thirsty

They agreed they deserved the first shot

One drink led to another

The sun was blistering hot

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Over the rocks we go

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Watching the river flow

Doogie said "Don, it's getting late,

And I can't see in the dark"

Don said "Doogie it's only four,

And I can't even see straight"

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Over the rocks we go

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Watching the river flow

"Look ahead, the rapids are swelling!"

"Let's run them" Doogie said

When they pulled themselves from the water

They couldn't find the whisky keg

The other drivers came searching

They scoured the waters and shore

But they couldn't find the whiskey

And from Huntsville I could hear the roar

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Over the rocks we go

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Watching the river flow

"Don't worry," said Don and Doogie

"There wasn't much hoochie left"

They passed out on the river shore

And the boys cursed: "We'll get you for this

We'll get you for this

We'll get you for this

We'll get you for this

We'll get you for this

We'll get you for this? yet"

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Over the rocks we go

Over the Whiskey Rapids

Watching the river flow

Over the whisky rapids

Watching the river flow
