I suggested to Dave Budd, my music writing partner, we write a song that reflects the end of summer. Living in Canada, the seasonal changes are marked with anticipation for new beginnings along with regret for what is about to slip away. Towards the Edge is about that late August-September feeling.
Towards the Edge Lyrics by Dave Budd
Sun hides a little sooner, As heated memories start to fade, Give thanks to bar stools outside, Forgetting names of many a day. Held your eyes a little longer, As heated moments start to slow, Give thanks to thunder inside, Times for us to only know. Towards the edge we stumble. Journeys soon to home, Back to concrete playgrounds, When our minds will roam. Stars shine a little brighter, Look back to where we made, Smoke travel for nights on end, All cares float away. Breathe a little deeper, As cooler breezes start to blow, Time moves in rhythm quicker, As reality starts to show. Towards the edge we stumble. Journeys soon to home, Back to concrete playgrounds, When our minds will roam. Towards the edge relenting, Journeys soon to stay, Inside concrete playgrounds, Gone from simpler days. Sun hides a little sooner, As heated memories start to fade, Give thanks to water and wine, Hazy thoughts and sun-soaked days.
